Is it an app? Is it an opera? It's an APPERA!!

Developed at the University of York, the world’s first contemporary music experimental voice APPERA (a cross between an app and an opera!) comes to the National Early Music Centre, York for one night only.

What kind of voice do you like? Low growly voices or high and pure? Are you a fan of a throaty husky sound or a voice as clear and sonorous as a bell? What would the outcome be, if we chose who to be with on the basis of the voice and vocal creativity rather that the usual perimeters of visual appearance, income, and what kind of pizza someone likes?

SINGLR is an opera where the stories presented onstage are the first meetings of participants, who took part in a specially created purely vocal dating app, called ‘SINGLR’

For the audience, ‘The SINGLR salon’ will be a fabulous dreamlike musical evening where ambient electronic tracks and live musicians accompany the vocalised conversations of the SINGLR app participants.

SINGLR is an opera, where stories are generated by participants meeting via a specially coded dating app, the only perimeter of the dating profile uploaded being the voice. 

All you have to do is head to SINGLR.org, follow the instructions to register and you will be able to find the voice match of your dreams!

You will be asked to upload a profile 'pic' which is a sample of your voice. No actual pics are required, in fact no other information at all is uploaded! 

You will then be sent voice matches and once you hear a voice that appeals to you, you can then communicate with that voice, (only in vocalisations) as much as you like…
